50th Anniversary Patch: Vostok 1, Yuri Gagarin First Man in Space

On 12 April 1961, Gagarin became the first man to travel into space, launching to orbit aboard the Vostok 3KA-3 (Vostok 1).
This patch celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of human space exploration. This patch is fully embroidered and is 5" x 3.25".
The Gagarin Patch – across the top: “Yuri Gagarin – First Man in Space” Across the bottom: “ Vostok Cedar ( his radio call sign) 12 April 1961”.
This patch was created by Tim Gagnon and Jorge Cartes and purposely created to mirror the Shepard patch. The designer of the Shepard patch is unknown, however. Gagnon and Cartes have teamed up since 2007 to design five Space Shuttle and eight ISS Expedition crew patches. Both incorporate souvenir mission patches and are in the color schemes of the National Flags of the USSR and USA.
