John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth on February 20, 1962 during his Mercury 6 mission. This limited-edition cachet (first-day cover) features the Project Mercury stamp that honored Glenn's historic flight. Placed on sale the exact hour his mission was completed, it marked the first time that an unannounced commemorative was simultaneously issued with the event it honored. The cover was postmarked from Cape Canaveral at 3:30 PM, February 20, 1962. Size: 11-3/4" x 9-3/4" (wood frame)
