Astronaut Strawberries

Freeze dried strawberries were enjoyed by U.S. astronauts on past space missions and are still available for shuttle flights or your family picnic. They are great on Earth vanilla ice cream!

Freeze-drying, or lyophilization, is like suspended animation because it keeps the strawberries totally intact, but without the water. As you eat the fruits, your mouth rehydrates the strawberries, restoring it to its original state. Freeze-dried strawberries can be stored for many years without refrigeration as long as you keep them in their airtight sealed container.
