For the first time a backup crew flew a mission - Tom Stafford and Gene Cernan - because the prime crew Eliott See and Charles Bassett died in a plane crash. The mission was renamed GT-9A then and performed the most accurate splashdown in the program so far - only 3 km away from the recovery ship USS Wasp.
This presentation bears a fragment of the flown Gemini 9 heatshield and comes with a numbered certificate of authenticity plus a fact sheet about Gemini 9.
The source of this heatshield fragment was a larger block of heatshield encased into lucite as a presentation piece given to VIPs and NASA workers as recognition for their work in the space program.
