International Space Station

The International Space Station is a research facility currently being assembled in outer space, the on-orbit construction of which began in 1998. Six astronauts can live longterm aboard the International Space Station at a time. They represent many spacefaring nations that contribute to the International Space Station Program, and they can conduct science experiments in microgravity that cannot be performed on Earth.

The International Space Station includes several laboratories for conducting experiments in a shirtsleeve environment, and additional experiment pallets are attached to the station's exterior to expose them to the harsh environment of space.
