Onboard Space Shuttle Discovery is an international seven-member crew led by NASA astronaut Rick Sturckow. The only international crewmember for STS-128 is Astronaut Christer Fuglesang, representing the European Space Agency -- he is from Stockholm, Sweden.
During the 13-day flight of STS-128, the Space Shuttle Discovery and International Space Station astronauts are conducting three spacewalks, delivering about 8 tons of cargo, and setting up the new COLBERT exercise treadmill. Also among the new equipment for the International Space Station is a new lab freezer and a sleeping compartment for the Tranquility node.
Launching on Space Shuttle Discovery is NASA astronaut Nicole Stott, who will remain aboard the International Space Station when Discovery undocks. She will return to Earth in November aboard a space shuttle mission in November. NASA astronaut Tim Kopra will take Stott's place for the return to Earth aboard STS-128, after about 6 weeks aboard the International Space Station.
